Biography: Dr. Yu received her BS degree in Biology from East China Normal University in 1985, and Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Sciences from Mount Sinai School of Medicine at CUNY in 1996. After completing post-doctoral training at Cornell Weill Medical College, she worked for OriGene Technologies Inc. for several years as a research Scientist. In mid-2004, Dr. Yu took a faculty position at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Agriculture and Biology of Professor in Animal Sciences, and joint professor at Shanghai Municipality Key Laboratory for Veterinary Biotechnology and National Key Laboratory for Oncogenes and Related Genes. During 2005-2015 she served as Assistant/Associate Dean of the school for International Affairs and Laboratory Management.
Research Experience/Achievement:
Trained in Dr. Leslie Pick’s lab as Ph.D. student working on transcriptional regulation of Drosophila early development, established a modified version of the Yeast Two Hybrid System to identify co-regulators of gene expression. During post-doc she studied the co-linearity regulation of the Hox gene family in mouse early development, and received two post-doc fellowships from NIH and ACS (American Cancer Society). She later joined a biotech company in Maryland specializing in Human Full-length gene cloning and identification. In August 2004, Dr. Yu returned to homeland and started her own lab in the School of Agriculture and Biology at SJTU. Since then her research has been focusing on the identification and characterization of key regulators for tissue damage and repair of multiple origins or by different causes, e.g. liver, cartilage, or chemotherapy-induced gastrointestinal side effect (CID), and the goal was to investigate the potential application of these key regulators in clinical usage. Over the years, Dr. Yu has published more than 50 peer-reviewed research papers and awarded with several Chinese national patents. Her main research was supported by grants from Chinese MOST, NSFC, Shanghai STCSM, and industry.
