Research Interests

We apply multiple techniques including systems biology, cell biology, genetics to study interplay between mitochondria, nucleus, and other organelles. Following are three main topics:

1. Mitochondrial retrograde signaling in plant development and stress response

2. Mitochondrial stress response and aging

3. Application of systems genetics in mitochondrial research

Main achievements

We use QTL mapping, GWAS, and other systems approaches to mechanistically characterize mitochondrial function, aging, and stress response, by measuring mitochondria and stress relevant phenotypes. These studies at the first time revealed mitochondrial unfolded protein response (UPRmt) in plants and its role in regulating plant response to mitochondrial stress.
